Oh god. Sooo... this was our homework for the first week. This was to gauge our skill. No instruction was given prior to this. We were to spend an hour on it. Just had to copy the bottom picture(no overlays). No color picking was allowed through the entire class. Looking at this again, I have to say I'm glad I took this class.
We missed the second week of class so this is basically week 3. Goal was to copy a picture we took ourselves using objects in our house. I learned to not choose circular objects for your second painting. Took much too long and ended up not finishing. Our teacher was looking more for skill building than completeness though so I was ok. Definitely much better than the first week though.
Week 4 we started on value and trying to paint from your head. Bottom one was from pics and in-class.
Week 5 is where I sort of started to get better. We talked about color for a bit in class. Hw was copying more stuff. Doing these a lot more boldly and a lot faster. The goal was to get the values down without blending. Kinda ignored that on the peppers.
The assignment this week was to get more into color. Teacher said not to get into detail as it would take waaaay too long. He was right. Even with no detail it took a long time to try and match all the subtle colors. I found that everything has color in it. Nothing is gray or black or white.
This week we had to come up with something and paint it out from our heads. Again I had trouble with this. Composition is pretty bland and the colors are very saturated. I got hung up on small things.
We were more focused on composition for this assignment. I like the one with the fish the most.
This week was about edges and how to use them. The mountain painting was something I did in class while discussing outside lighting. Might make it into something later. I like it.
For our final we did one final still life that we photographed ourselves. Didn't do anything fancy for the assignment because we ran out of time. We were already in the first week of break for makeup classes and had 3 days to do this. There are some small problems, but if the photo reference wasn't there, I don't think you'd be able to tell it wasn't a photo right away. Yay :)
Next up I think is Creature Design.
